Signing in on public or shared devices

Signing into your Acenci Account on a public or shared computer—or any device that isn’t your own, like a family member’s laptop or a friend’s tablet? Here’s how to keep your account safe and your information private.

Why you should be careful

Public and shared computers (like those in libraries, hotels, or internet cafés), as well as devices that belong to family, friends, or colleagues, can be less secure than your personal device. Others may have access to the same device after you, and there’s a higher risk of your information being saved or seen by someone else.

Tips to protect your account

1. Don’t use “Remember me” or save passwords

Never select options like “Remember me,” “Stay signed in,” or allow the browser to save your password when signing in on a public or shared device. This helps prevent others from accessing your account after you leave.

2. Use your browser’s private or incognito mode

Open a private or incognito window before signing in. This mode doesn’t save your browsing history, cookies, or form data after you close the window, making it harder for others to access your information.

3. Always sign out when finished

When you’re done, make sure to sign out of your Acenci Account. Close all browser windows to ensure your session is fully ended. This is especially important on any device that isn’t yours, including family or shared household computers.

4. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second step (like a code from your phone) when signing in. This means even if someone gets your password, they can’t access your account without the second factor.

Learn how to set up MFA for your Acenci Account.

5. Be cautious of suspicious activity

If you notice anything unusual with your account after using a public computer, change your password immediately and review your account activity.

Quick checklist

  • Don’t save your password or use “Remember me”

  • Use private/incognito mode

  • Sign out and close all browser windows

  • Enable MFA for extra protection

  • Watch for suspicious activity

Protect your privacy

Avoid accessing sensitive information or making important changes to your account on public, shared, or non-personal devices whenever possible. If you must, follow the steps above to reduce your risk.
